The year 2019 was a black year for the TV personality. On Friday, April 5, 2019, Craig Carton was sentenced to 3 and a half years of prison by Chief Judge Collen McMahon in Manhattan Federal Court. He was punished for felony allegations of securities fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to conduct those acts. He, Michael Wright, and Joseph Meli are accused of running a Ponzi scheme that cheated investors out of $5.6 million by fraudulently stating they had access to millions of dollars in face-value concert tickets through non-existent agreements with event producers.

According to a concurrent civil lawsuit filed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Craig reportedly utilized gains from new investors to cover millions of dollars in gambling debts and to reimburse previous investors. Craig resigned from WFAN on September 13 after getting an indefinite ban, ending his ten-year run as co-host of Boomer and Carton, leaving Esiason as the only host. He claimed he made the choice to give his previous program "the best opportunity to prosper without additional disturbance".
