In October 2025, she launched a new podcast with Crooked Media titled Runaway Country with Alex Wagner. She no longer fills in for Rachel Maddow on The Rachel Maddow Show, which temporarily returned to nightly coverage early in 2025 before resuming its Monday-only schedule.

Alex also mentioned a knee injury on Instagram in August 2024, though details about the injury and her recovery remain limited.

Earlier, in August 2022, during a broadcast, a technical issue with a teleprompter caused Alex to appear as if she were looking around erratically. According to NewscastStudio, the issue was purely technical and not related to her eyes or health.
