Chet Hanks Biography | Eric André ComplexCon Feud Video, Parents Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson, Age & Net Worth

Chet Hanks’ long-running feud with comedian Eric André has erupted again, this time in a face-to-face confrontation at ComplexCon in Los Angeles. In a video shared on October 5, 2026, the actor and musician approached André over remarks he made about their chaotic encounter on The Eric André Show three years earlier. Their heated exchange ended with André walking away alongside his security team, bringing renewed attention to Tom Hanks’ outspoken son.

But the confrontation is only part of what Hanks has been doing lately. Now 36, he has returned as Travis Bugg in Netflix’s Running Point, performed at major country music events with his duo Something Out West, and continued pursuing film projects. From his Hollywood upbringing and early rap career to his family life, relationships, and latest controversy, here’s a closer look at Chet Hanks’ life and career in 2026.

Chet Hanks Age And Education

Chet Hanks was born Chester Marlon Hanks on August 4, 1990, in Los Angeles, California. He turned 36 in August 2026. He is the son of Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks and actress and singer Rita Wilson. His siblings include his younger brother, Truman Hanks, and two older half-siblings, Colin Hanks and Elizabeth Hanks, from his father's previous marriage to Samantha Lewes.

Hanks attended the Oakley School, a therapeutic boarding school in Oakley, Utah, during his teenage years. He later attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he studied theatre and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

During his time at Northwestern, Hanks began releasing rap music under the name Chet Haze. His early songs attracted attention as he tried to establish himself as a musician, years before his shift toward country music.

Chet Hanks Career

Chet Hanks made his film debut as Dexter in Bratz (2007) before taking smaller roles in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008), Larry Crowne (2011), Project X (2012), and Fantastic Four (2015). He later appeared alongside his father, Tom Hanks, in the 2020 war film Greyhound.

On television, he gained wider recognition for playing Charlie in Shameless and Blake in Empire. His other credits include Your Honor, NCIS: New Orleans, Atlanta, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. He also appeared on The Eric André Show in 2023 and joined the cast of the reality series The Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets in 2024.

One of Hanks’ more recent television roles is Travis Bugg, a talented but unpredictable basketball player in Netflix’s sports comedy Running Point, starring Kate Hudson. He returned for the show's second season, which premiered on April 23, 2026. Netflix announced the series' renewal for Season 3 on May 13, although Hanks' involvement in the upcoming season has not been separately confirmed.

Country music has become a major part of Hanks’ career. Alongside musician Drew Arthur, he formed the duo Something Out West, trading his earlier rap persona for a more country-inspired sound. The group performed at the 2026 Stagecoach Festival in April, where Tom Hanks was seen enthusiastically singing along to their music. The duo also took the stage at Billboard Country Live in Nashville on June 5, 2026.

Their song “You Better Run” brought another family connection into the spotlight. Its Forrest Gump-inspired music video features Chet recreating moments associated with his father's famous film, along with a cameo from Tom Hanks himself.

Hanks’ move into country music has also changed where he lives. In April 2026, he revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that he had moved into a trailer at a Nashville RV park. He explained that after buying and furnishing a condo in Los Angeles, he wanted a simpler place to stay while working on music in Tennessee. The unconventional arrangement became another talking point in his increasingly Nashville-focused life.
