Tim Scott started out his profession as an insurance agent and financial advisor. He founded the company Tim Scott Allstate. After some time working in the company, he made the decision to enter politics. Scott first got involved in political politics in 1995 when he ran for a position on the Charleston County Council. He prevailed, and he served until 2008.

He was elected to office in 2009 after winning a campaign for a vacant seat in the state House of Representatives that year. Scott ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010. In 2013, Scott was chosen by Nikki Haley to take up his Senate seat.
