Who Is Shane Gillis? SNL Host, Monologue Backlash, Live F-Bomb, Net Worth, Age & Bio

Shane Gillis is back in the headlines after his third Saturday Night Live hosting appearance sparked controversy for more than one reason. During the October 10, 2026, episode, the comedian accidentally dropped an uncensored F-bomb in a live sketch, while jokes about women's gym clothing in his opening monologue drew criticism from fellow entertainers, including Dan Levy. The backlash has once again put Gillis's provocative style of comedy under scrutiny.

The controversy comes during one of the busiest periods of his career. Gillis has expanded his success beyond stand-up with the Netflix comedy series Tires, hosted The Roast of Kevin Hart, and set a Guinness World Record for the largest audience at a comedy performance. From his early life in Pennsylvania and controversial SNL history to his career, former girlfriend, net worth and height, here's a closer look at Shane Gillis's life in 2026.

Shane Gillis was born Shane Michael Gillis on December 11, 1987, in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. His father has also appeared on Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast.

Gillis attended Trinity High School in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, where he graduated in 2006 and played football as an offensive and defensive tackle. After high school, he enrolled at the United States Military Academy at West Point to play football but left during his first year.

He eventually graduated from West Chester University in Pennsylvania with a degree in history. Gillis continued performing stand-up and later returned to SNL as a guest host in 2024, 2025 and 2026.

One of his major projects is Gilly and Keeves, a sketch comedy series he co-created and starred in. The show features a range of unusual characters and satirical sketches that reflect his distinctive comedic style. He also released Gilly and Keeves: The Special in 2022, expanding the project into a longer comedy production.

Gillis reached another major milestone with his Netflix stand-up special Shane Gillis: Beautiful Dogs in 2023. In addition to his stand-up work, he appeared in Bupkis, a comedy series starring Pete Davidson, and made a cameo in Eminem's Houdini music video in 2024.

In May 2026, Gillis hosted Netflix’s The Roast of Kevin Hart, a live comedy special featuring celebrities and comedians taking turns roasting the actor. The event added another high-profile hosting credit to his career and showed his growing role in large-scale comedy productions.

Gillis co-created and stars in Tires, a Netflix comedy about the staff at a family-run auto repair shop.
